Founded in 1975, O'Brien Burrell & Co is a reputable accounting firm offering accounting, tax advisory, business management, and superannuation services.
Originally based in the Sutherland Shire, it was established by Peter and Joan O'Brien as a family business known for its exceptional service.
Now a respected member of the St. George District Business Community, our mission is to provide valuable advice and assistance to all clients, including businesses of all sizes.
Peter and Joan have both now retired, handing over the business to Mark, Justin and their daughter, Susan, fostering growth by upholding the strong values the businesses was based on nearly 50 years ago.
The Team
Mark Wang
Director/Accountant
CPA, B.Bus(Acc), JP
Mark is a member of CPA Australia and a Registered Tax Agent, with expertise in taxation, business advisory, superannuation and estate matters. Mark has a broad client base including restaurants/cafes, strata and real estate services, health professionals, security & risk management, retail and wholesale industries and building and construction services.
Mark is a passionate St George Illawarra Dragons supporter, hoping for another premiership or miracle soon. Mark enjoys spending time with his family and a game of poker or basketball with friends.
Justin Kim
Director/Accountant
CPA, B.Comm(Acc), Dip.FS(FP), JP
Justin is a member of CPA Australia and a Registered Tax Agent. He has worked in public practices as a Business Services and Tax Accountant since 2007. Justin has amassed extensive experience throughout his career and provides a full range of services in business and tax advice, SMSFs and personal tax matters.
Justin is an avid outdoorsman who loves camping, 4wding, riding his motorcycle, snowboarding and barbequing.
Joan O’Brien
Director/Office Manager (part time)
Joan has been a part of the family business since its beginning in 1975. Whilst working part-time now, she continues to be an integral part of the day-to-day running of the business.
Joan loves spending time with her family, her dog Molly, gardening, and travelling (because she has to) with her husband Peter.
Rena Wang
Accountant
M.Com(Finance), B.Com(Acc & Finance)
Rena has a master’s degree in Finance from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Finance from Deakin University. She is currently working towards completing her Chartered Accountants program. Rena has experience in accounting, focusing on individual, company and trust tax returns.
Rena loves hiking, reading and playing badminton with friends.
Susan Carr (O’Brien)
Director/Office Manager
Susan has spent the majority of her career in financial services – both banking and insurance. She has a diverse history in lending, product development and marketing. With both of her parents looking to retire, Susan came to assist with the day-to-day management of the business.
Susan loves travelling, reading, spending time with family and friends, cooking and eating.
Linda
Client and ATO Liaison
After completing both a bookkeeping and tax preparation course in 2012, Linda has continued to work in the taxation/finance industry. Linda has experience in preparing financial reports/BAS’s and assisting clients manage complex matters with the ATO. Her education includes courses in managing budgets, operating computerised accounting systems, preparing financial reports and BAS’s. Linda is continuing her studies in taxation, contract/consumer and income tax law.
Linda enjoys watching lifestyle programs, listening to music and gardening.
Peggy Shang
Accountant
CPA, M.Com(Acc)
Peggy is a member of CPA Australia, with expertise in taxation, business advisory and payroll matters. Peggy has many years of experience in accounting and taxation across various industries including restaurants/cafes, retail and wholesale industries, arts studios, strata and real estate services.
Peggy loves playing tennis, rock climbing, eating and travelling with her family.
Sisam K C
Accountant
MBA(PA), BBA
Sisam graduated with an MBA/MPA specialising in accounting and finance. She is currently working as an accountant specialising in the preparation of tax returns and financial reports for various entities, including individuals, trusts, partnerships and companies.
Sisam loves trekking, creating reels, photography and watching sunsets.
Elizabeth Marlow
Bookkeeper
Elizabeth is a registered bookkeeper who in 2017 decided to become a “career bookkeeper”. She has previous experience in administration roles, with 19 years in the accounting industry. Primary roles include BAS/IAS preparation, single touch payroll (incl. EOFY finalisation), superannuation guarantee payments, reconciliation of client files, helping clients change accounting software products, TPAR, worker’s compensation insurance declaration of wages and payroll tax.
Elizabeth is a fan of pop culture, watching documentaries and listening to music.
